Donald Trump launched a new attack on Elon Musk Tuesday over the billionaire’s criticism of his $4.5 trillion “One Big Beautiful Bill,” calling Musk the top recipient of government subsidies. “Without subsidies, Elon would probably have to close up shop and head back home to South Africa,” Trump posted on Truth Social.

Musk, who previously ran Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) before stepping down in May, reignited his criticism as the Senate began debating the bill and hinted at forming a new political party. Trump responded by suggesting DOGE scrutinize Musk’s ventures: “No more Rocket launches, Satellites, or Electric Car Production… BIG MONEY TO BE SAVED!!!”
The “One Big Beautiful Bill” would extend expiring tax cuts and boost border security but could add over $3 trillion to the national debt and eliminate healthcare for millions, according to bipartisan estimates. Musk warned Republicans that backing the bill amounts to supporting “debt slavery,” posting, “All I’m asking is that we don’t bankrupt America.”
Last month, Trump warned of “serious consequences” if Musk funded Democrats running against pro-bill Republicans.
