Washington, DC — President Donald Trump’s approval rating has fallen to 30%, the lowest level of his second term in Pew Research Center polling, as dissatisfaction grows across several major issues ahead of the midterm elections.

Pew found that 68% of U.S. adults disapprove of Trump’s job performance. His current standing is close to the 29% approval rating Pew recorded near the end of his first term following the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol attack.

The decline is also visible among people who voted for Trump in 2024. Pew found that 67% of those voters now approve of his performance, down sharply from 95% early in his second term. Among Trump voters ages 18 to 34, approval falls below half.

Confidence in Trump’s handling of the economy, immigration and foreign policy has also declined. Pew additionally found that 69% of Americans have little confidence that Trump will keep his business interests separate from presidential decision-making.

The survey was conducted Sept. 28 through Oct. 4 among 5,062 adults and has a margin of error of 1.6 percentage points.

The findings arrive less than a month before the midterms, when control of Congress will be decided.
