Thousands of copies of former President Trump’s “God Bless the USA” Bibles were printed in China, according to trade records reviewed by The Associated Press. Around 120,000 of the Bibles were shipped to the U.S. between February and March, with a total cost of $342,000, making each Bible less than $3.

Trump, who partnered with country singer Lee Greenwood to sell the Bibles, has repeatedly emphasized the importance of religion in America, saying the loss of Christianity is one of the nation’s biggest problems. During his presidency, Trump exempted Bibles from tariffs imposed on other Chinese goods.

The Bibles have stirred controversy, including accusations in Oklahoma of narrowly tailoring a school Bible program to favor Trump’s version. Despite Trump’s tough rhetoric on China, his policies and partnerships sometimes involve Chinese manufacturing, leading to criticism of inconsistencies in his stance.
