President Trump lashed out at Walmart on Saturday following the retailer’s announcement that it would raise prices due to increased costs tied to the administration’s tariff policies.
“Walmart should STOP trying to blame Tariffs as the reason for raising prices throughout the chain,” Trump wrote on Truth Social, adding that the company made “BILLIONS OF DOLLARS” and should “EAT THE TARIFFS” instead of charging customers more.
Walmart said Thursday that higher prices would begin rolling out next month, citing pressure from Trump’s expansive tariff agenda. The company also reported a drop in quarterly profits and withheld its outlook due to ongoing economic uncertainty.
“We’ll keep prices as low as we can for as long as we can given the reality of small retail margins,” a Walmart spokesperson told The Hill in response to Trump’s comments.
While Trump defended his tariff strategy, his administration recently paused or reduced tariffs on many Chinese imports as part of ongoing trade negotiations.
