Tennessee lawmakers passed a bill permitting teachers to carry concealed handguns at school. The bill, approved by a 68-28 vote in the Tennessee House, has sparked heated debates since last year’s Nashville school shooting. State Representative Justin Pearson criticized the decision, stating, “Instead of protecting kids, they’ve protected guns AGAIN!”

The bill requires individuals wishing to carry a concealed handgun in school to complete at least 40 hours of training in school policing. The identity of the armed teacher or staffer will not be public, but school leaders and local law enforcement must be informed.
