The U.S. Supreme Court denied President-elect Donald Trump’s request to block sentencing in his New York hush money case. In a 5-4 decision, the court stated Trump’s claims of immunity could be addressed through appeals, as the sentence—a virtual hearing imposing “unconditional discharge”—posed minimal burden.

Trump, convicted of falsifying business records to conceal a payment to Stormy Daniels, will face no jail time but remains a convicted felon. He criticized Judge Juan Merchan, alleging bias and attacking a gag order restricting his public statements. Trump’s lawyers argued immunity as president-elect, but the court and Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg emphasized preserving the jury’s verdict.

The case, marking the first conviction of a U.S. president, underscores Trump’s ongoing legal battles ahead of his inauguration. Conservative justices dissented, favoring a reprieve, while Trump expressed respect for the court’s decision and plans to appeal.
