Representative Don Bacon, a Nebraska Republican, informed NBC News that, according to congressional lawyers, there is currently no specific crime linked to President Joe Biden in the ongoing impeachment investigation. This probe, driven by House Republicans including Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer and Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan, scrutinizes the Biden family’s alleged ties to Hunter Biden’s foreign business ventures during Joe Biden’s vice presidency under Barack Obama.

The inquiry, described by the White House and President Biden as a “baseless political stunt,” demands proof of “high crime or misdemeanor” to proceed. Bacon, reflecting on the investigation’s findings, including the $24 million in foreign funds raised by the Biden family, suggested the inquiry might be nearing its end due to the lack of substantial evidence for impeachment.

During a recent committee hearing, Democratic Representative Jared Moskowitz challenged the ongoing expenditure on the investigation and the delay in impeachment proceedings, highlighting the absence of concrete evidence against Biden. In response, Comer has called for Biden to testify before the committee, leveraging claims by former business associates of Hunter Biden that contradict the president’s statements regarding his non-involvement in his son’s business dealings. The White House dismissed the call for Biden’s testimony as a “sad stunt” amidst an impeachment deemed unlikely to proceed due to insufficient evidence.
