Robert F. Kennedy Jr. officially ended his independent presidential campaign on Friday, endorsing former President Donald Trump. The announcement came shortly before Kennedy took the stage at an Arizona press conference, where he formally withdrew from the race and detailed his decision to support Trump.
Kennedy’s withdrawal was revealed in a Pennsylvania court filing related to a legal challenge over his ballot access. The filing cited Kennedy’s endorsement of Trump as the reason for his withdrawal from the Pennsylvania ballot.
During his remarks, Kennedy criticized the Democratic Party for undermining his campaign and expressed his belief that he no longer had a viable path to victory. He portrayed both himself and Trump as victims of political and legal warfare by Democrats. Kennedy also took aim at Vice President Kamala Harris, accusing her of failing to present a meaningful policy platform and comparing the Democratic Party’s control to Russian autocracy.
Kennedy’s decision to exit the race comes after months of struggling to gain traction as an independent candidate, facing legal challenges, and battling controversies that hampered his campaign. Despite initial support, Kennedy’s campaign was marred by negative headlines and difficulties in securing ballot access across the country. His endorsement of Trump marks the end of one of the more unconventional presidential campaigns in recent history.
