Restaurant attendance in Washington, D.C., has fallen sharply following President Donald Trump’s federal takeover of the city’s police department and deployment of National Guard troops to combat crime.

OpenTable data shows seated diners dropped 16 percent last Monday compared to the year prior, plunged 31 percent by Wednesday, and remained down 20 percent on Saturday. WUSA first reported the decline.

The crackdown has sparked protests across the city, with residents heckling federal law enforcement officers in busy neighborhoods. Calls for D.C. statehood have also resurfaced.

Attorney General Pam Bondi said Sunday that 68 people were arrested overnight, bringing the total number of arrests since Trump’s move to more than 300. “Homicide suspects, drug traffickers, and more are being charged,” she posted on X, adding that 15 illegal firearms were seized.

Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) dismissed Trump’s actions as a “stunt,” saying on NBC’s “Meet the Press” that the president was attempting to distract from questions over unreleased Epstein files.
