A regional jet carrying 60 passengers and four crew members collided with a military helicopter Wednesday night while approaching Reagan National Airport. The jet, en route from Wichita, Kansas, struck an Army UH-60 helicopter from Fort Belvoir, Virginia, around 9 p.m., according to the FAA.

Officials confirmed both aircraft landed in the Potomac River. A large-scale search-and-rescue effort involving 300 emergency responders was launched in difficult conditions. Authorities have not confirmed casualties, though Sen. Ted Cruz stated fatalities occurred.

President Trump was briefed on the crash, expressing condolences and praising first responders. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem deployed Coast Guard resources for rescue efforts. The NTSB and FAA are investigating.

Reagan National Airport suspended flights, with officials stating it will remain closed until at least 11 a.m. Thursday. Kansas lawmakers and Governor Laura Kelly are in contact with authorities.
