Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell expressed opposition to former President Donald Trump’s proposed tariffs, warning they would raise prices for American consumers. “I’m not a fan of tariffs. They raise the prices for American consumers,” McConnell said, emphasizing his preference for free trade, which he believes boosts job creation through exports.

McConnell’s remarks came after Trump threatened to impose a 200 percent tariff on John Deere tractors made in Mexico. Trump also proposed tariffs of 60 percent or more on Chinese goods and a 20 percent blanket tariff on other imports, arguing these measures would fuel a “manufacturing boom.”
