Washington, DC — Kimberly Guilfoyle has resigned as U.S. ambassador to Greece after the White House asked her to step down amid mounting allegations of improper conduct.
New White House press secretary Katie Zacharia confirmed Tuesday that President Donald Trump’s administration requested Guilfoyle’s resignation. Trump had said a day earlier that he was “not happy” with her performance and was considering removing her.
Guilfoyle’s departure follows reports alleging she accepted improper gifts, used private travel connected to wealthy Greek businessmen, threatened a Greek official and sought political favors tied to personal financial matters. She has denied wrongdoing, and her attorneys have disputed key allegations.
The controversy intensified after reports that Guilfoyle sought a $100,000 payment from a Republican donor before her Senate confirmation while allegedly offering access to senior Trump administration officials. Her representatives say the requested money involved legitimate services performed before she became ambassador.
Guilfoyle was confirmed by the Senate in September 2025 after Trump nominated her for the Athens post. She is a former Fox News host and former fiancée of Donald Trump Jr.
The State Department inspector general is reportedly reviewing the allegations, though it remains unclear whether a formal investigation has been opened.
