U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) says it arrested a Mexican national accused of threatening to assassinate Donald Trump. According to ICE, Ramon Morales-Reyes, who entered the U.S. illegally, sent a handwritten letter on May 21 vowing to “shoot your precious president in [his] head” before self-deporting to Mexico.

He was taken into custody the next day and is currently held at a Wisconsin jail pending deportation. ICE confirmed it is coordinating his removal from the U.S.

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem responded forcefully, noting that the threat follows last year’s shooting of Trump in Pennsylvania and a recent controversial social media post by former FBI Director James Comey. “All politicians and members of the media should take notice of these repeated attempts on President Trump’s life and tone down their rhetoric,” Noem said.

Comey’s now-deleted “86 47” post — interpreted by some as a reference to assassinating the 47th president — is under investigation by the Secret Service.

Federal authorities are treating the incident seriously as part of ongoing efforts to address threats against public officials.
