Hunter Biden has agreed to be disbarred from practicing law in Washington, D.C., following his federal felony conviction, according to court documents filed Tuesday.
The D.C. Court of Appeals confirmed that Biden submitted a sealed affidavit consenting to the disbarment. He had already been suspended from practicing law since June 2024, after a jury convicted him of lying about drug use when purchasing a firearm in 2018.
Biden, who has been a licensed attorney in D.C. since 2007, was found guilty of three felony counts, including false statements and illegal firearm possession. Prosecutors presented excerpts from his 2021 memoir Beautiful Things and text messages to support claims of drug addiction at the time of the gun purchase.
Though initially pleading not guilty, his defense argued Biden did not view himself as an addict when he bought the firearm. In a separate case, Biden later pleaded guilty to tax offenses and received a presidential pardon from his father, Joe Biden, in December 2024.
The disbarment will become final pending court approval.
