A new poll by the Financial Times and the University of Michigan Ross School of Business shows that more voters trust Vice President Kamala Harris to handle the economy than former President Donald Trump. Harris leads Trump 42% to 41%, marking the first time a Democratic candidate has edged ahead on this issue since the poll began tracking voter sentiment last year.
Harris’s lead is attributed to a significant increase in her own support, with voter trust in Trump remaining unchanged at 41%. Her August numbers show a 7-point improvement over President Joe Biden’s performance in July, when he was trusted by just 35% of voters to manage the economy.
The poll also highlights a decrease in the percentage of voters who trust neither candidate, dropping from 18% in July to 10% in August. Conducted from August 1-5, the poll included 1,001 interviews and has a margin of error of 3.1 percentage points.
