Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, a Georgia Republican, announced plans to initiate a motion to vacate against House Speaker Mike Johnson next week. Greene criticizes Johnson’s reliance on Democratic votes to pass significant legislation, including Ukraine aid.

Greene, who began the ousting process weeks ago, questioned the offerings for Republican voters at a recent press conference. Johnson defended his position, stating the motion is detrimental to the Republican Conference, the institution, and the country.

The House must vote on the motion within two legislative days, with the exact timing determined by House Majority Leader Steve Scalise. Greene claims the support of two members, Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) and Paul Gosar (R-Ariz.), but most House Republicans continue to back Johnson.

Democrats pledged to support Johnson if Greene proceeds with the vote, reinforcing her assertion that Johnson serves Democratic interests over those of conservative party members. While Greene insists there are viable successors, she declined to name them.

Greene, who voted for Johnson as speaker last year, expressed disappointment with his concessions and accused him of prioritizing the Democratic agenda. She warned that this approach risks alienating voters and jeopardizing GOP reelection plans, stating, “We are not going to have a House majority if we keep Mike Johnson.”
