Brian Pritchard, the first vice chair of the Georgia Republican Party, was fined $5,000 and publicly reprimanded by the State Election Board for voting illegally nine times while on probation. The ruling, delivered by Administrative Law Judge Lisa Boggs, followed Pritchard’s admission of guilt to check forgery charges in 1996, leading to an extended probation period until 2011. Despite this, Pritchard registered to vote in 2008, asserting his eligibility despite his probationary status.
Pritchard participated in nine elections between 2008 and 2010, during which he was still under probation in Pennsylvania. He defended his actions by claiming a lack of awareness of his probation status preventing him from voting. However, the judge deemed his explanations unconvincing, emphasizing that Pritchard should have been aware of his ineligibility.
The case has sparked reactions within the party, with Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene calling for Pritchard’s immediate resignation to uphold the party’s commitment to election integrity. This incident comes amid Pritchard’s expressed concerns over election integrity, notably after the 2020 presidential election.
