Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has declared that his state will not comply with the Biden administration’s recent changes to Title IX, which include protections for transgender students. “We are not gonna let Joe Biden try to inject men into women’s activities,” DeSantis stated. He also criticized Biden for undermining parental rights and abusing constitutional authority.
The Biden administration’s changes, set to take effect in August, aim to ensure all students can access safe and welcoming schools. Education Secretary Miguel Cardona said the regulations build on Title IX’s legacy.
DeSantis has faced criticism from LGBTQ advocates for laws they believe harm their community, including the ‘Don’t Say Gay’ law. The Human Rights Campaign and Equality Florida issued a travel advisory to Florida due to these laws.
The Department of Education stated that all federally funded schools must comply with these final regulations. Florida’s Commissioner of Education, Manny Diaz Jr., however, vowed that Florida will fight the changes. He accused the Biden Administration of distorting the statute to deny the meaning of biological sex.
