Elon Musk announced over the weekend that he plans to sue former Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-NY) after Bowman referred to him as a “Nazi” and a “thief” during an appearance on CNN. Bowman made the comments while criticizing Musk’s role in the Department of Government Efficiency and his influence in the Trump administration.
“He’s incompetent. He’s a thief. He’s a Nazi. And people don’t trust him,” Bowman said on NewsNight With Abby Phillip.
Musk responded on X, writing, “Had enough. Lawsuit inbound.” Republican lawmakers quickly backed Musk, with Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) and Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) encouraging him to pursue legal action.
Bowman, who lost his primary in 2024, has faced controversy in the past. He was censured for pulling a fire alarm during a key House vote and reached a plea deal that included a fine and probation. In another incident, Bowman drew backlash for a social media post about white supremacy, which Rep. Mike Lawler (R-NY) mocked following Bowman’s election loss.
