Elon Musk on Monday launched Grokipedia, a new online encyclopedia positioned as an alternative to Wikipedia, which he has long criticized as biased. The project is backed by xAI, Musk’s artificial intelligence company, and already hosts 885,279 articles. While Grokipedia’s layout and citations resemble Wikipedia’s, the site reportedly omits or downplays content critical of Musk, including past controversies and environmental issues involving his ventures.

Grokipedia’s debut fulfills Musk’s September promise to create a “massive improvement over Wikipedia.” He and several Republican allies have labeled the original site “Wokipedia,” accusing it of favoring left-leaning narratives. David Sacks, the White House AI adviser, claimed Wikipedia is maintained by “an army of left-wing activists” and criticized its prominence in Google search results and AI training datasets.

The Wikimedia Foundation, which operates Wikipedia, defended its credibility, saying the platform remains “neutral and transparent.” Spokesperson Lauren Dickinson stated, “Even Grokipedia needs Wikipedia to exist,” emphasizing that Wikipedia’s volunteer-driven model provides a “living record of human understanding.”

Musk has not commented on Grokipedia’s reported selective omissions, though the platform continues to rely heavily on Wikipedia for source material.
