Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is under growing pressure over a $10 million payment to the Hope Florida Foundation, a nonprofit tied to his wife, Casey DeSantis. The funds, allegedly part of a Medicaid settlement with Centene Corporation, are now at the center of a scandal involving claims of misuse to campaign against a marijuana legalization ballot measure.
A draft agreement leaked to Florida media appears to contradict DeSantis’s denial that the settlement money was used politically. Critics say the funds were funneled through the foundation to nonprofits linked to anti-Amendment 3 campaigns—one with ties to DeSantis’s former chief of staff.
State Rep. Alex Andrade (R), who is investigating the transfer, called the move “galling.” Meanwhile, DeSantis has accused House Republicans of sabotaging their own party and defended his wife, whose political prospects could be affected.
With GOP divisions deepening, Senate leaders are withholding confirmation votes on key nominees tied to the controversy as investigations continue.
