WASHINGTON, DCDemocrats on the House Oversight Committee walked out of a closed-door briefing Wednesday with Attorney General Pam Bondi over the handling of files tied to Jeffrey Epstein, escalating tensions over transparency and congressional oversight. The protest followed Bondi’s refusal to commit to testifying under oath despite a subpoena approved earlier this month with some Republican support.

Lawmakers said the briefing failed to address key concerns about how the Justice Department has managed the release of documents related to Epstein’s sex trafficking investigation. Rep. Maxwell Frost (D-FL) said Bondi repeatedly declined to confirm she would testify under oath, prompting Democrats to leave what some described as an insufficient and controlled setting.

The dispute has drawn bipartisan scrutiny, with critics questioning whether the department has fully complied with the Epstein Files Transparency Act, which mandates broader disclosure of investigative records. Bondi has defended the department, arguing the controversy is politically motivated and insisting there has been no effort to shield former President Donald Trump or other high-profile individuals.

Tensions also flared during the session, with Rep. James Comer (R-KY) acknowledging he criticized Democrats during the exchange, reflecting the increasingly contentious environment surrounding the issue.

The Justice Department continues to face pressure from both parties as questions persist about the scope and completeness of the released files.
