Washington, DC — Early voting is surging across several battleground states ahead of the Nov. 3 midterms, with Democrats showing particularly strong participation as both parties fight for control of Congress.

More than 23 million Americans had already voted by Friday, with turnout running substantially ahead of the 2022 midterm pace in several competitive states.

North Carolina has recorded more than 1.2 million early ballots, with registered Democrats accounting for a considerably larger share than Republicans. Democratic participation has also been notably strong in states including Kansas, Iowa and Nebraska, while battlegrounds such as Georgia, Texas and Ohio are experiencing heavy overall turnout.

The numbers offer Democrats another encouraging indicator alongside national polling that has recently shown the party leading Republicans on the generic congressional ballot.

However, early-voting data cannot determine the ultimately winner. Party registration identifies who voted, not which candidate they voted for, and Republicans have historically been more likely to vote on Election Day.

The unusually strong participation nevertheless suggests an energized electorate. Analysts point to concerns about affordability, tariffs, the Iran war, and President Donald Trump’s approval ratings as factors driving voter interest.

With voting continuing for more than another week, both parties are intensifying efforts to turn early enthusiasm into actual electoral gains.
