Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth reaffirmed Sunday that the Department of Defense (DOD) will eliminate all climate change programs, calling the issue “crap” and stating it has no place in military planning.

Responding to a CNN report on military readiness and climate policies, Pentagon spokesperson John Ullyot stated, “Climate zealotry and other woke chimeras of the Left are not part of DOD’s mission.” Hegseth later reinforced this stance, saying, “The @DeptofDefense does not do climate change crap. We do training and warfighting.”

The move is part of the Trump administration’s broader effort to roll back climate-related initiatives across the government. Officials, including acting Deputy Defense Secretary Robert Salesses, argue that climate spending “set our military back” under previous administrations and is an unnecessary taxpayer expense.

However, Democrats and military experts warn that eliminating climate policies could harm troop safety and readiness, as extreme weather and environmental threats increasingly impact global military operations.
