NEW YORK CITY, NY — At least two people were critically injured following a violent incident involving a shooting and stabbing at Grand Central subway station on Saturday morning, according to early reports.
Local officials said emergency crews responded around 9:50 a.m. near East 42nd Street and Park Avenue in Midtown Manhattan. According to WPIX, two victims were transported to a hospital in critical condition.
Witnesses described a chaotic scene, with at least one individual reportedly slashed with a large knife, possibly a machete. Police officers were seen with weapons drawn, ordering a suspect to drop the weapon.
Separate reporting indicated the suspect may have stabbed multiple individuals before being shot by police. Authorities have not yet confirmed those details.
The New York Police Department urged the public to avoid the area, citing ongoing police activity, delays, and heavy congestion. Transit officials said several subway lines would bypass Grand Central until further notice.
Officials have not released additional information about the suspect or motive as the investigation remains ongoing.
