Washington, D.C. — President Donald Trump shared a video Sunday calling for democratic socialists, including New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, to be “criminalized and deported.”
The video was posted by conservative commentator Michael Savage and argued that democratic socialist candidates are pushing the United States toward communism. The Hill reported that Savage specifically named Mamdani, Sen. Bernie Sanders, and other democratic socialist figures while calling for them to be removed from the country.
Trump has increasingly attacked democratic socialists after several left-wing candidates won local and primary races. Reuters reported that the Democratic Socialists of America has expanded its influence, claiming more than 100,000 members and backing candidates in local and national races.
Mamdani, a Democratic Socialist and New York City mayor, has previously drawn both criticism and attention from Trump, who met with him at the White House after his 2025 mayoral win. The latest repost marks a sharper turn in Trump’s rhetoric toward him.
The Hill reported that a recent Economist/YouGov poll found one-third of Americans said they would consider voting for a democratic socialist, while 45% said they would not.
