Lexington, Kentucky — Republican congressional candidate Ralph Alvarado has removed references to President Donald Trump from his campaign website, replacing an “America First” message with a more independent pitch centered on healthcare and affordability.
Earlier versions of Alvarado’s website prominently featured a photograph of him with Trump and described the former Kentucky state senator as one of Trump’s earliest supporters. It also highlighted his 2016 Republican National Convention speech supporting Trump and said he wanted to fight alongside the president in Washington.
Those references are now gone. The current site instead emphasizes Alvarado’s work as a physician and his willingness to work across party lines to lower healthcare costs.
“Healthcare isn’t a talking point to me — it’s been my life’s work,” Alvarado says on the site.
The change comes as Republicans face a more difficult national environment heading into November and rising healthcare costs become a significant campaign issue. NBC News first reported the website overhaul.
Alvarado is Trump’s endorsed candidate for Kentucky’s open 6th Congressional District, currently represented by Republican Andy Barr, who is running for Senate. Trump carried the district by about 15 percentage points in 2024. Cook Political Report currently rates the race Likely Republican, though it identifies the district as potentially competitive.
Democrats accused Alvarado of attempting to distance himself from Trump for political reasons. Neither Alvarado’s campaign nor the White House provided an explanation for the changes.
