Washington, D.C. — A legal watchdog has filed professional misconduct complaints against U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro and two prosecutors over their unsuccessful effort to indict six Democratic lawmakers who appeared in a video telling military personnel to refuse unlawful orders.
The Legal Accountability Center filed complaints Tuesday against Pirro, Carlton Davis and Steven Vandervelden in New York and Virginia. The organization alleges the prosecutors pursued “meritless” criminal charges against Sens. Mark Kelly and Elissa Slotkin and Reps. Chris Deluzio, Maggie Goodlander, Chrissy Houlahan and Jason Crow.
President Donald Trump had denounced the lawmakers’ video as seditious and wrote that their conduct was “punishable by DEATH.” The lawmakers maintained they were simply reminding service members of their legal obligation to reject unlawful commands.
A Washington grand jury declined in February to indict any of the six lawmakers, an uncommon rebuke of prosecutors seeking criminal charges.
The watchdog argues Pirro’s office allowed political pressure to override independent prosecutorial judgment and asked bar authorities to investigate whether disciplinary rules were violated.
Pirro’s office rejected the complaint as frivolous. A spokesperson said prosecutors present evidence but grand juries ultimately decide whether indictments should be issued.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth separately censured Kelly over the video, but a federal judge later blocked that punishment.
