Porter, Texas — A Texas father used parental control technology on his teenage daughter’s cellphone to help locate and rescue her after authorities say she was kidnapped at knifepoint while walking her dog on Christmas Day. The case, which unfolded in the Houston-area suburb of Porter, has drawn national attention for the role technology played in the girl’s recovery.
According to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, the 15-year-old did not return home at her expected time after taking her dog for a walk. When she could not be reached, her father used the phone’s parental tracking features to pinpoint its location roughly two miles away in a secluded, wooded area of neighboring Harris County. He drove to the site and found his daughter and her dog inside a pickup truck with an adult man.
Authorities said the girl managed to escape with her father’s help, after which law enforcement was called. Investigators later determined the suspect had allegedly threatened the teen with a knife and forced her into his vehicle. Witnesses provided descriptions of the truck and driver, leading deputies to identify and arrest 23-year-old Giovanni Rosales Espinoza of Porter without incident.
Rosales Espinoza has been charged with aggravated kidnapping and indecency with a child and remains in custody without bail. Sheriff Wesley Doolittle praised the coordinated response and credited quick thinking for preventing further harm. Under Texas law, the charges could carry significant prison time and mandatory sex offender registration.
