Palatine, IL — An Illinois teenager has been arrested after prosecutors say he planned a mass shooting targeting a Hindu temple in the Aurora area and circulated a racist manifesto describing his intent to kill as many people as possible.

Alexandros Paporakis, 19, faces felony charges including making a terrorist threat and unlawful possession of weapons. Authorities arrested him Sunday as he left his home after coworkers reported disturbing messages and an eight-page document allegedly titled “Why I fought: A.K.A. (Aurora Shooter’s Manifesto).”

Prosecutors say the document contained racist and antisemitic language targeting Indian, Jewish and Black people and described the author as a white supremacist and neo-Nazi who frequently fantasized about mass murder.

Police said a search of Paporakis’ home uncovered an unserialized AR-style rifle, loaded magazines, ammunition, Nazi-related items and a gas canister marked with an anti-South Asian slur.

Investigators believe the alleged attack was intended for Sunday after Paporakis reportedly told coworkers the day would be “special.” Authorities have not publicly identified the specific temple they believe was targeted.

India’s government condemned the alleged plot and called for a thorough investigation and stronger protections against hate-motivated violence.

A judge ordered Paporakis held in custody pending trial. He is scheduled to return to court Oct. 30.
