Orlando, FL — Former Republican Rep. Matt Gaetz has been accused in a new federal civil lawsuit of participating in the sex trafficking of two young women between 2017 and early 2019.

The 38-page complaint, filed Thursday in the Middle District of Florida, alleges that Gaetz and two other men coordinated travel, payments and drugs to obtain commercial sex acts from women identified as Jane Doe 1 and Jane Doe 2. The lawsuit says both were recent high school graduates at the time.

Gaetz denied the allegations, saying much of the conduct described is false and that he looks forward to questioning the plaintiffs under oath.

One of the other defendants, former Seminole County tax collector Joel Greenberg, previously pleaded guilty to six federal crimes, including sex trafficking of a child, wire fraud and aggravated identity theft. He was later sentenced to 11 years in federal prison.

The lawsuit comes after a bipartisan House Ethics Committee investigation concluded in 2024 that there was substantial evidence Gaetz paid women for sex and drugs. The committee also said Gaetz had repeatedly and incorrectly claimed a separate Justice Department investigation had “exonerated” him.

Gaetz resigned from Congress in November 2024 and later withdrew from consideration to become attorney general under President Donald Trump.

The new allegations have not been proven in court.
