DAYTON, Ohio — A former AMVETS post commander in Dayton pleaded guilty to wire fraud after federal prosecutors said he stole more than $622,000 from the nonprofit veteran support organization. According to reporting from WHIO cited by The National Desk, 48-year-old Danny Dale Gordon admitted transferring money from AMVETS fundraising and scholarship accounts into the group’s main account before withdrawing the funds for personal use.

The U.S. Department of Justice said Gordon spent the embezzled funds at casinos, on travel and hotel stays, and at a Dayton-area gentlemen’s club. Gordon served as post commander from January 2022 through May 2024.

Federal prosecutors said the scheme diverted money intended to support veterans and local community programs. Gordon now faces up to 30 years in prison and a fine of up to $1 million.

Sentencing has not yet been scheduled.
