Brooklyn, New York — A 25-year-old Brooklyn woman has been arrested after her 1-month-old baby boy was found dead inside her Flatbush apartment, according to law enforcement sources.
Police say Gynae Kendall was taken into custody Saturday and charged with concealment of a human corpse after allegedly hiding the infant’s body inside her residence on Veronica Place. Officers from the NYPD’s 67th Precinct responded to the apartment following a request for a wellness check earlier that day.
According to investigators, Kendall’s mother went to the apartment on January 24 to check on the child, Adonnys Kendall. She told police that her daughter claimed the baby had been given to his father. Unsatisfied with that explanation, the grandmother contacted authorities and requested that officers verify the infant’s safety.
When police entered the apartment, they discovered the baby’s body inside a duffel bag stored in a closet. Emergency medical responders pronounced the infant dead at the scene. The body was later transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, where an autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause and manner of death.
Kendall was arrested by detectives assigned to the 67th Precinct Detective Squad. Police said additional charges may be filed depending on the results of the autopsy and the ongoing investigation.
Authorities have not released further details about how long the infant had been deceased or whether there were signs of trauma. The investigation remains active as detectives continue to gather evidence and interview witnesses.
