Minneapolis, Minnesota — City officials in Minneapolis reported Saturday that another shooting involving federal law enforcement occurred, renewing tensions weeks after a fatal encounter between an Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer and local resident Renee Good.
In a post on the social platform X, the city said the shooting took place near West 26th Street and Nicollet Avenue and urged residents to remain calm and avoid the area while authorities worked to confirm details. A source told NewsNation that one person was shot and transported to a hospital, where the person died. The Department of Homeland Security later said a firearm was recovered by federal officers at the scene.
The incident comes amid an expanded federal law enforcement presence in Minneapolis ordered by President Trump as part of his deportation initiative. Since Good was fatally shot earlier this month, protests against federal immigration enforcement have intensified across the Twin Cities, with frequent confrontations between officers and demonstrators monitoring their activity.
Following Saturday’s report, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz again called on the White House to withdraw federal officers from the state, describing the situation as intolerable. Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey has also urged ICE to leave the city while asking demonstrators to remain peaceful.
Good was killed during an altercation on an icy Minneapolis street when ICE officers attempted to stop her vehicle. The administration has said she attempted to strike officers with her SUV, while critics argue video footage shows she was trying to evade arrest.
Tensions remain high as the Department of Justice has issued subpoenas accusing Walz and Frey of obstructing immigration enforcement efforts.
