Austin, TX — Republican Texas Senate candidate and Attorney General Ken Paxton reportedly celebrated New Year’s Eve in Dubai with two American businessmen who were facing federal criminal charges in the United States.
According to reporting cited by Mediaite, Paxton attended the Dec. 31, 2024, gathering with Tracy Duhon and businessmen Anosh Ahmed and Sameer Suhail. Both men had been indicted months earlier in a federal healthcare fraud case involving allegations that roughly $15 million was stolen from a Chicago hospital.
Ahmed also had substantial financial ties to Paxton. Campaign-finance records reviewed by the Wall Street Journal showed that Ahmed contributed about $190,000 to Paxton, including $25,000 just days after his indictment.
Ahmed separately faces charges in a larger alleged fraud scheme involving at least $195 million in government payments for fraudulent COVID-19 testing. He has pleaded not guilty. Both Ahmed and Suhail have since returned to the United States to face prosecution.
Paxton’s campaign did not directly address questions about the Dubai gathering. Senior adviser Nick Maddux instead accused Paxton’s opponents of political persecution and compared the scrutiny to investigations involving President Donald Trump.
The revelations arrive as Paxton campaigns for the U.S. Senate against Democrat James Talarico and faces continuing questions about his relationships with wealthy political donors.
