TALLAHASSEE, Florida — Gov. Ron DeSantis is warning Republicans that the party risks losing control of Congress in next year’s midterms unless it offers voters a clear, aggressive reform agenda. Speaking on “Fox & Friends,” DeSantis said the GOP has not accomplished enough in recent months and must show voters what they stand for rather than relying on favorable maps or Democratic missteps.

DeSantis said Republicans need to counter what he calls “complacency” among voters in an off-year midterm and argued that House leaders should force Democrats to go on record by introducing new policy proposals daily. “What have they done since August till now? They really haven’t done anything,” he said, urging lawmakers to be bold and consistent.

He pointed to immigration and the economy as the issues most likely to resonate with voters. DeSantis claimed President Donald Trump successfully reduced illegal border crossings during his previous term and said Republicans should emphasize that contrast. On economic struggles, he blamed Democratic leadership for inflation and argued they are now pretending they “had nothing to do with it.”

His comments follow a series of underwhelming GOP special election performances, including this week’s narrow win in Tennessee, where Republican Matt Van Epps won by just nine points in a district Trump carried by more than twice that margin. Other GOP candidates in recent Florida special elections also underperformed expectations.

With only a seven-seat House majority, DeSantis said Republicans cannot afford complacency, and betting markets reflect the uncertainty: Polymarket currently gives Democrats a 78 percent chance of flipping the House.
