Tucson, AZ — A 46-year-old Arizona man has been arrested and federally charged after investigators say he threatened to carry out bomb attacks against the White House and other locations in Washington, D.C.
Jacob Aaron Hicks of Tucson is charged with making an interstate threat to injure. The investigation began after Tucson television station KGUN9 received an email on Sept. 23 warning of an imminent attack and forwarded the message to law enforcement.
The FBI confirmed that the station’s report prompted an investigation. Authorities subsequently identified Hicks as the alleged sender, according to a criminal complaint.
Investigators also searched an email account allegedly linked to Hicks and discovered additional unsent draft messages containing similar threats. Those drafts, also dated Sept. 23, were addressed to other news organizations and referenced attacks against the White House and locations elsewhere in the nation’s capital.
Authorities have not publicly disclosed a motive or indicated that explosives were recovered. No attack occurred, and investigators have not announced evidence that another person participated in the alleged plot.
Hicks faces a federal criminal charge, but the allegations remain unproven. He is presumed innocent unless convicted in court.
The FBI investigation remains ongoing as authorities review the threatening communications and circumstances surrounding them.
