Former Vice President Mike Pence is listed as a potential witness in the Fulton County indictment of ex-President Donald Trump and co-defendants, accused of attempting to overturn the 2020 election results in Georgia. CNN reports that Pence’s name appears among over 150 on the witness list submitted by District Attorney Fani Willis.
Pence, who resisted a subpoena by special counsel Jack Smith earlier in 2023, citing constitutional protections, eventually complied with a court order to testify, though he maintained limits regarding his role as Senate president.
The Fulton County grand jury indicted Trump and 18 others for allegedly engaging in a scheme to illegitimately maintain power post-election. Four defendants, including Sidney Powell and Kenneth Chesebro, have pleaded guilty, while others maintain their innocence.
The trial, proposed to start on August 5 by Willis, awaits confirmation by Judge Scott McAfee. The defense, led by Trump’s lawyer Steve Sadow, argues for dismissal based on First Amendment grounds, challenging the legitimacy of the “fake electors” accusation.
The decision on whether to drop charges rests with Judge McAfee, with no verdict yet reached. Pence’s potential testimony and the involvement of other high-profile witnesses like Ronna McDaniel and Alex Jones highlight the case’s significance.
