President Joe Biden won the Nevada Democratic presidential primary, according to NBC News projections, marking a significant step towards securing his party’s nomination for the upcoming election against the likely Republican nominee, Donald Trump. In a race with limited competition, Biden’s most notable challenger was self-help author Marianne Williamson, with Representative Dean Phillips unable to participate due to a late entry.

Biden’s victory in Nevada, where he achieved a dominant lead, continues his winning streak following triumphs in New Hampshire and South Carolina. In his victory statement, Biden expressed gratitude to Nevada voters and emphasized the importance of organizing and voting to protect American democracy.

This year marked a shift for Nevada Democrats from caucuses to a primary election, aligning with new Democratic National Committee rules and a revamped nominating calendar for 2024. Michigan is next on the Democratic primary schedule, positioned as a key state in both the primary and general elections.

Despite facing minimal opposition in the primary and showing weaker polls against Trump compared to 2020, Biden has received overwhelming support from Democratic officials nationwide. His re-election campaign has largely focused on Trump, with little effort expended on the Nevada primary. The Democratic primaries have seen more procedural drama than competition, with Biden winning a notable unsanctioned contest in New Hampshire and dominating the South Carolina primary.
