Dr. Anthony Fauci on Monday defended the Biden Administration’s door-to-door vaccine effort as some Republican governors push back on it, stressing that a targeted, one-on-one outreach would be key to lowering the number of unvaccinated Americans.

Speaking to CBS This Morning, Fauci said the U.S. vaccination effort was in the beginning focused on “large efforts, like auditoriums or sports arenas filled with people getting vaccinated” but now needed to become more targeted.  

“You’ve got to go one-on-one” to reach the “core, lesser group” of unvaccinated Americans, Fauci said.

Some Republicans sharply criticized the announcement, with Rep. Madison Cawthorn (R-N.C.) going so far as to claim, without evidence, the initiative could lead to the government taking away Americans’ guns and bibles. Missouri Gov. Mike Parson (R) and South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster (R) both slammed the door-to-door effort and said they would try to stop it. The White House hit back, accusing Republicans of floating falsehoods.
