Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) said House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy is “a liar and a coward” for refusing to condemn Rep. Lauren Boebert’s (R-Colo.) anti-Muslim comments comparing Omar to a terrorist, but remains “very confident” Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) will take action this week.
Omar told CNN’s Jake Tapper that McCarthy does not have the ability to condemn the “bigoted and anti-Muslim rhetoric” because “this is who the [Republicans] are.”
The congresswoman said “their party is normalizing anti-Muslim bigotry.”
Though a small number of Republican legislators have condemned Boebert’s comments, Omar said “they are being attacked for condemning it, which tells you that their conference condones this.”
