Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky invited President Donald Trump to visit Ukraine during a 60 Minutes interview aired Sunday, urging him to witness firsthand the destruction caused by Russia’s invasion before pursuing any negotiations.
“Come, look, and then let’s move with a plan to finish the war,” Zelensky said, switching to English for his direct appeal. “You will understand what Putin did.”
Zelensky, speaking from his hometown of Kryvyi Rih, where a recent Russian missile strike killed 19 civilians, expressed concern that Russia’s narrative is influencing U.S. policy. He specifically criticized Vice President JD Vance for allegedly justifying Vladimir Putin’s actions and accusing Ukraine of staging “propaganda tours” during their February White House meeting.
Zelensky pushed back on Trump’s previous claim that Ukraine started the war, saying, “There is an aggressor and there is a victim. The Russians are the aggressor, and we are the victim.”
He warned that U.S. wavering could lead to devastating losses, adding, “Without the United States we will suffer great losses — human and territorial.”
