Ben Wikler, chair of the Wisconsin Democratic Party, accused Elon Musk of committing a felony by offering $1 million checks to voters supporting Republican Brad Schimel in the state’s Supreme Court race.

“Musk’s illegal election bribery scheme to put Brad Schimel on the Supreme Court is a chainsaw attack on democracy,” Wikler said in a statement Friday.

Musk had posted on X that he would personally give two $1 million checks to attendees at a Sunday event in Wisconsin who had voted in the election. He later deleted the post and revised his message, stating that recipients would be selected for their support of an anti-judicial activism petition.

Wikler called on law enforcement to intervene and urged Schimel to denounce Musk’s actions.

Legal experts, including University of Wisconsin professor Barry Burden, said Musk’s offer appeared to violate Wisconsin’s election bribery law, which prohibits offering anything of value in exchange for a vote.

Musk previously gave $1 million to voters in swing states during the 2024 election via his America PAC, prompting a DOJ warning.
