Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, the Democratic vice-presidential nominee, defended past inaccuracies about his military service and his travels to China during a “60 Minutes” interview. Walz was questioned about his previous claim that he was present during the 1989 Tiananmen Square protests, which he now admits was a mistake. He explained that there is a difference between mixing up dates and being a “pathological liar like Donald Trump.”
When interviewer Bill Whitaker asked if he could still be trusted to tell the truth, Walz responded, “I think I can,” while acknowledging past errors. “I will own up to being a knucklehead at times, but the folks closest to me know that I keep my word,” he said.
Walz has also faced criticism from Republicans over his statements about his military service. He once claimed he carried “weapons of war in war” despite never being deployed into combat during his time in the Army National Guard.
