Vice President J.D. Vance said Sunday that Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker “should suffer some consequences” for failing to curb violence in Chicago, citing 591 homicides in 2024. Speaking on ABC’s This Week, Vance said, “I think Gov. Pritzker has certainly failed to keep the people of Illinois safe,” adding that his administration is focused on restoring law and order.

Vance stopped short of calling for Pritzker’s arrest, saying he would “leave criminal questions to the courts and juries.” Pritzker fired back during the same program, accusing the vice president of spreading “a tidal wave of lies” and politicizing Chicago’s struggles.

The remarks came days after a federal judge blocked the Trump administration from deploying National Guard troops in Illinois, citing a lack of credible evidence to justify the move. The decision further intensified tensions between the White House and Illinois leadership over public safety.

Separately, federal investigators dropped a bribery probe into Border Czar Tom Homan after finding no credible evidence of wrongdoing.
