U.S. lawmakers have unveiled a $1.7 trillion spending package that includes another large amount of aid for Ukraine and a boost of nearly 10 percent in defense spending. Lawmakers introduced the bill early on December 20 after stuffing as many priorities as they could into the sprawling package. It includes about $45 billion in emergency assistance for Ukraine. If approved, that would be the biggest American infusion yet for Kyiv and above President Joe Biden’s $37 billion emergency request.
