Washington, D.C. — Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard announced Friday that she will resign from the Trump administration next month after her husband, Abraham Williams, was diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer.
According to the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, Gabbard informed President Donald Trump of her decision during a Friday meeting and formally submitted her resignation letter. Her final day is expected to be June 30.
In her resignation statement, Gabbard said she needed to step away from public service to support her husband during treatment. “I cannot in good conscience ask him to face this fight alone while I continue in this demanding and time-consuming position,” she wrote.
Trump praised Gabbard in a Truth Social post, calling her service “incredible” and expressing confidence that her husband would recover.
Gabbard has served as director of national intelligence since February 2025 following Senate confirmation. During her tenure, she oversaw the release of hundreds of thousands of government documents tied to issues including the Trump-Russia investigation and records connected to the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.
Her resignation marks another high-profile departure from the administration following exits by former Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and former Attorney General Pam Bondi.
