President Donald Trump said Sunday he may send U.S. Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine if Russia does not agree to end its ongoing war, now entering its fourth year. Speaking aboard Air Force One, Trump told reporters he may first speak with Russian President Vladimir Putin, describing the missile as “an incredible, very offensive weapon” that “Russia does not need.”
The remarks come after Trump also spoke with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who told Fox News that Ukraine is “working” with Washington to obtain long-range capabilities. Supplying Tomahawk missiles would allow Kyiv to strike targets deep inside Russian territory.
A Russian lawmaker warned that Moscow would retaliate against the United States if such weapons are provided, according to Reuters. The latest escalation follows renewed Russian attacks on Ukraine’s power grid, injuring two and killing a child in Kostiantynivka, Ukrainian officials said.
Both Putin and Zelensky have recently praised Trump’s efforts to mediate conflicts, with Zelensky noting on X that “surely other wars can be stopped as well.”
