WASHINGTON, D.C. — President Donald Trump on Thursday pointed to a deadly hammer attack in Florida while criticizing former President Joe Biden and Democratic immigration policies.

In a Truth Social post, Trump blamed the previous administration for allowing the suspect, identified by the Department of Homeland Security as a Haitian national, to remain in the country. He argued the case reflects broader failures in border enforcement and immigration policy.

Federal officials said the suspect entered the U.S. in 2022 and was later granted Temporary Protected Status (TPS), which has since expired. Authorities allege he fatally attacked a woman at a Florida gas station on April 3.

DHS officials also criticized prior policies, stating the individual had been released into the country despite a removal order. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has since lodged a detainer, and the suspect faces deportation proceedings.

Trump additionally called for ending the TPS program, describing it as flawed, while blaming court rulings for blocking enforcement changes.

The case has intensified political debate over immigration policy, with broader disagreements over border security, humanitarian protections, and public safety continuing in Washington.
