President Donald Trump announced Monday that the U.S. will impose 100% tariffs on countries conducting business with Russia if a peace deal ending the war in Ukraine isn’t reached within 50 days. Speaking from the Oval Office alongside NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, Trump said the secondary sanctions would apply broadly and expressed growing frustration with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Trump said the U.S. reached an agreement to supply weapons to NATO countries, who will then send arms to Ukraine — with Europe covering the cost. “We’re not buying it, but we will manufacture it,” Trump said.

Trump criticized Putin’s repeated missile attacks after calls, adding, “Talk doesn’t mean anything… it’s got to be action.”

Sen. Lindsey Graham is pushing for legislation allowing Trump to impose tariffs up to 500% on countries supporting Russia. Graham called this a “sledgehammer” approach to end the war. Rep. French Hill also backed converting seized Russian assets into a trust for Ukraine, an option previously rejected by the Biden administration over European financial concerns.
